ARTIST BIO
Mar Sub Laban is a multidisciplinary artist from Miami, Florida with Palestinian and Puerto Rican heritage. They make work primarily with video art, installation and textiles. They explore individual connection to identity, emotion and cultural connection with the goal of the audience feeling connected to it as a universal human experience. Mar’s work is rooted in the Palestinian-American experience, specifically in forging a new path and expression of Palestinian identity and culture, using textile art practices (such as Tatreez). This expression in their work usually takes place in the context of a social practice, leading tatreez workshops and creating work with children and adults as a teaching artist. They attended New World School of the Arts and earned a BFA with emphasis on Art and Technology. They have exhibited their work at the Young Arts gallery in Downtown Miami, Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS) in Daytona Beach, 786 Gallery and Locust Projects in Miami.
