dyed linen, embroidery thread, found objects, wood table

"...this work was created in response to the MOAS permanent collection of artifacts, specifically the Chinese sewing table dated to 1701. I combine the domestic household item with the symbolism, cultural craftwork and ceremonial practices that flourished at that same time period for Palestinians, relating it to my own identity. Palestinian tatreez has long been an integral craft in Palestinian culture, which is passed down matrilineally and serves as wearable archives and identifiers of culture and identity for the wearer.  The fabric laying atop the table is an unfinished head veil for wedding/ceremonial purposes and outlines aspects of the wearer's life such as: village origin, occupation, agricultural signifiers etc, through the embroidered design motifs."
